Tension Mats

Polyurethane is recognized as one of the best materials from which to manufacture screening surfaces. The use of polyurethane tensionable mats as a screening surface has many advantages provided the application is appraised correctly. Polyurethane tension mats have a long life with screening materials such as quartz, silicon and sand. This is because of polyurethane’s resistance to abrasion and immunity to the effects of most corrosive materials.

Polyurethane exhibits the characteristic elasticity of rubber and it is this property that gives the ore being screened more ‘bounce,’ hence presenting it to the screening surface apertures more frequently then conventional woven wire or punched plate screens. The distinct advantage polyurethane mats have over rubber is the accuracy of the cast apertures. Polyurethane tension mats, when compared to the punched apertures in rubber, allow for more precise screening.

Johnson Screens advanced design through sustained research, development and quality of manufacture has allowed for the correct relief angle to be designed into each application, ensuring optimum performance. As a result ‘pegging’ and ‘binding’ is minimized, reducing the frequency of scheduled stoppages due to screening surface blockages. Subject to the application and conditions, polyurethane tension mats can be expected to last in excess of eight times that of normal woven wire screens.
