Vortex Grit System and Grit Classifier

Johnson Screens offers a range of equipment to suit municipal headworks grit removal and classification.

Vortex Grit Removal System
The vortex grit removal system is built in stainless steel. Influent enters the circular grit tank tangentially and a decrease in the velocity causes the heavier grit particles to settle at the bottom. A slow rotating impeller creates a vortex zone which acts on the lighter solids, causing them to spiral upwards to the outlet of the grit tank. An air lift system comprising of a blower and pipe works sucks the settled grit out of the grit tank for further treatment. Alternatively, a grit pump could also be supplied to remove the settled grit.

Grit Classifier
The grit classifier consists of a sloping bottom tank and a screw conveyor. The grit settled at the bottom of the tank is collected, lifted by the screw conveyor and then drained and discharged. The screw diameter and consequently the grit classifier model varies according to the volume to be treated.
